What To Look For In A Tattoo Kits

By: Fred Quaye

Tattoo kits

Let's be honest, tattoos are becoming more and more accepted in society each day.  That could in part be due to the fact that they're easier to remove, or that there are TV shows that sensationalize tattoo shops, but whatever the reason there is not the same stigma that there was a few decades ago.

Because of this, more and more people are considering becoming artists of this craft.  If you're looking to get started, a tattoo kit can be a great way to get some practice and without having to actually go through the stress and pressure of permanently marking someone's skin.

Even though they are reasonably inexpensive, and widely available; it does not mean that all tattoo kits are the same.  For this reason, it is important to know exactly what you're looking for.

This will prevent you from buying something that isn't good quality, or overspending on something that might not be at your skill level yet.  Before you get started, you need to do an honest assessment of yourself.  If you have absolutely no practice doing tattoo work then you should probably start out with a less expensive tattoo kit.  It is an absolute must that it comes with some sort of practice skin so that you can get a real feel for the work.

Ideally, it should come with as much ink as possible, and also several ink cups that can be used one per job.  Because of the health risks associated, absolutely everything should come sterilized and in a blister pack so that there is absolutely no risk of infection.  If each and everything thing that will contact skin does not come in individual and sterilized blister packs, do not even consider it.  Again, it is not worth someone's health to save a few dollars.

Of course, you also need a gun.  Ideally you want something that is going to be as comfortable to hold as possible, and also easy to load and not too hard on your hand.  Keep in mind that some jobs can last for several hours, so it is worth spending a little extra for comfortable grip.  Make sure that you're familiar with how to load it and how the chamber mechanism works before you order, just so that you don't end up with something that you don't like or can't use.

Lastly, you need a power source.  It should be an extremely reliable power source, because without it the rest of the tattoo kit is worthless.  Of course, there are the things that might be included that are great to have, such as gloves or flash ideas to practice with; but what we've gone over are the basic necessities that you absolutely must have.  Anything else, such as a foot pedal for the gun, is just an extra bonus and it's up to you if you need it or not. Now that you know what you need and what to look for, see if you can find the perfect tattoo kit for you.
